Dr. Shannon Wessell-Calbrix

DVM

Dr. Shannon Wessell-Calbrix graduated from Kansas State University in 1994. She is a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist and a Certified Veterinary Food Therapist. She is also working towards her CCRV certification.

Dr. Frank Peña is a graduate of Texas A&M University – College of Veterinary Medicine, class of 1991. He then completed an internship at the University of Missouri–Columbia in 1992. Since then, Dr. Peña has been in private clinical practice.

He has been at Garden Ridge Animal Hospital since 2000. His special interests are lameness exams/orthopedics and internal medicine.

Dr. Jennifer Smallwood (MS-TCVM CVA CCRP CVFT) is a Dallas native who attended the Hockaday School before receiving a BS in Animal Science from Texas A&M University in 1999. In 2003 she graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and moved to Lexington, Kentucky, to complete a private practice internship focused on thoroughbred racehorses at Keeneland Racecourse. At the racetrack, she first became interested in acupuncture as a therapeutic and diagnostic tool. She practiced in the Lexington area for ten years. Over time, her practice shifted from a traditional Western medicine practice to an integrative approach encompassing both Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and Western Medicine. In 2013 she returned to Dallas and opened an ambulatory acupuncture practice servicing horses and small animals.

She is the founder and owner of Integrative Veterinary Wellness in Richardson, Texas and she is excited to offer Integrative Veterinary Medicine techniques to even more patients in the Lewisville area.

Dr. Smallwood has been applying acupuncture, chiropractic, herbal medicine, and other techniques to supplement the treatment of various conditions in her patients for over 15 years. She is a 2006 graduate of Chi University and holds the Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist designation from the China National Society of Acupuncture. She is certified by the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association to provide chiropractic care for animals.

Dr. Smallwood is a graduate of the Canine Rehabilitation Program at the University of Tennessee’s College of Veterinary Medicine and holds the Certified Canine Rehab Practitioner designation. She earned the Certified Veterinary Food Therapist title from Chi University in 2016. In 2020 she became one of the first 100 vets in the country to earn a Master’s Degree in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine through Chi University.

Dr. Pam Henricks

Dr. Pam Henricks

Dr. Pam Henricks is the original owner of the practice and has been practicing here since 1990. She graduated from Texas A&M University – College of Veterinary Medicine in 1982. She is happily married with two kids and a Shetland Sheepdog (the Pekinese recently passed). Her hobbies include ham radio, scrapbooking, beekeeping, winemaking, and Model A Fords.

She is highly interested in exotic species, behaviors, surgery, and geriatrics, and is Fear Free Certified. She is the past President of the Texas Academy of Veterinary Practice and has served on the Lewisville Animal Services Committee. She is a member of the Denton County Medical Reserve Corp.
